The design of the base allows it to be mounted on a survey style or camera tripod (tripod not included), but you do not need a tripod, the base and side have magnetic mounting, or you can just stand it on any flat surface.
Best of all, if it goes out of adjustment, you can recalibrate it on the job site - saving on expensive repairs and rework!
